So meta!

Sega’s ever expanding collection of free-to-play mobile games,Sega Forever, will be getting a new entry today with the release ofVirtua Tennis Challenge. Based on the 2000 Dreamcast original,Challengewas the series’ transition to mobile phones in 2012 that didn’t really make much of a splash. Now that it will be going free, more people can pretend to be tennis stars while sitting in a real tennis stadium.

Seeing as how the last major release in theVirtua Tennisseries was with 2011’sViruta Tennis 4, I’m mostly surprised that Sega hasn’t outright cancelled the series. I don’t know if this mobile version’s new, lower price will do much to spur interest, but hopefully we get to see a next-gen incarnation of the classic series. I still love tinkering around with the arcade port of3whenever I find a cabinet.
