Think you can win with your eyes closed?

Terry Garrett has been playingThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timesince 2011, and five years later (with long breaks in between) he has finally managed to finish the game. Oh yeah, did I mention he’s blind?

Garrett has adapted his own method of playing video games through sound recognition and lots of trial and error. He uses a two-speaker setup which helps him identify the locations of enemies and other things just by listening closely.

In the past he’s played other games likeOddworld: Abe’s Exodduswith exceptional skill. But of course, a huge 3D world likeOcarina of Timewas going to be a massive undertaking.

In the video below, you may watch the final moments as he descends Ganon’s Castle while it crumbles around him, closely following the sounds of Zelda’s footsteps (and shrill screams), and as he slices and dices Ganon for the victory! More of the playthrough can be found over on hisYouTube channel.

Garrett thanked his fans for all their help and support and “all those who have stuck with [him] through this series even after it seemed like [he] was giving up.” I wonder what he’ll play next?
