We’re glad that Artificial Mind and Movement’sthird-person action titleWETwas picked up for publishing by Bethesda Softworks. Quite simply, dual-wielding pistols and slicing people up with swords in videogames is our jam. But what of the curious three-letter title? Why is this game calledWET?

“WETis kind of an abbreviation for ‘wetworks,'” A2M’s Patrick Fortier said at Bethesda’s recent press event in London, “which means like undercover missions that get messy. Or that you have to get your hands wet with blood.”

“That’s the kind of problem that Rubi fixes,” he added, referring toWET‘s main character, a gun-for-hire sent in to “clean up” messy situations.

It’s also impossible to completely ignore the overtly sexual connotations of the word “wet.” Coupled with skimpy outfit and curves ofWET‘s protagonist, it almost seems like a given. Bethesda’s Pete Hines downplays this, however.

Hell is Us gameplay reveal

“We didn’t want to pick up something where we’re picking up a game with a female protagonist beacuse we thought sex could sell and wanted to put her boobs in the camera as much as possible,” Hines said. “I think that’s actually a disservice to the game.”

“We want the game to be taken seriously,” he continued. “She does add something in her personality; that kind of female Clint EastwoodThe Man With No Namething. It fits her well, but we don’t want her to become some kind of sex object. We think the game itself is cool, and her personality adds to it.”

We think the game is looking pretty cool too, and we hope to get our hands “wet” before the game’s Fall release.
