Starfieldhas kind-of-sort-of been revitalizedwith the release of the Creation Kit, but the best is yet to come, and there are exciting news coming out of this year’s Quakecon. Notably, the creator of the widely acclaimed Sim Settlements mod forFallout4is creating aDoom-themed quest forStarfield.

Kinggath made a name for themselves whenSim Settlementsbecame a bit of a must-have for any settlement-focusedFallout 4player. The majority of their mods forFallout 4since have been at least somewhat oriented toward making settlements better, too, but their firstStarfieldmod is going in a wholly different direction, porting some of the key content from the recentDoomgames. Specifically, what little material Kinggath has already made available shows off a bevy of iconic goodies fromDoom, including (but not limited to) the revered Super Shotgun in itsDoom Eternalstyling.

Kinggath’s new At Hell’s Gate mini-quest is coming to Starfield for free

The really fascinating bit is that this whole thing appears to be coming out at absolutely no additional charge. Even though Bethesda’s Creations allow modders to earn money for their releases, Kinggath is seemingly opting to push the mod out totally for free, instead, which is an admirable approach for sure. You can see the first At Hell’s Gate trailer at the end of the new Bethesda Creations video, featured above. It starts at 1:50.

Now, to be fair, we don’t know yet what the exact scope of the At Hell’s Gate mod is going to be. Kinggath specifically describes it as a “miniquest”, though I’d like to point out that we are – at least – getting what looks like aDoom-themed dungeon of some sort. We’ve also seen the 2016 iteration of the Doom Slayer armor, theDoom EternalCrucible sword and the aforementioned Super Shotgun, and what may or may not be a take on the classic Spiderdemon creature from the franchise. The only downside is that we don’t yet knowwhen, exactly, might this mod be coming out.

In other related news,Starfieldmay be carving its way through the modding scene by setting some new precedents. Notably, this is the first timeBethesda’s own first-party Creations mod hosting service has outpaced the third-party Nexus Mods website. The margin is quite substantial, too, to the point where some modders are seeingten timesas many downloads via Creations as they do on the Nexus. An interesting turn of events, to be sure, and it’s only going to get more interesting as we approachtheShattered Spaceexpansion pack, coming out this Fall.
