There’s a fungus fight happening in the Underdark, andBaldur’s Gate 3demands you either side with Glut or Spaw to settle it. It’s anotherBG3quest that quickly escalates into a blood bath if you aren’t careful, but things don’t have to end that way.
So, whether you’re interested in sewing a little chaos or making peace, we’ll explain here whether you should side with Glut or Spaw, plus outline how to complete quests likeAvenge Glut’s Circle.

Should you side with Glut or Spaw?
In mostBaldur’s Gate 3scenarios, you should side with Spaw. At least, that’s my personal recommendation in a game where there’s no real right or wrong way, it’s just juggling the roleplaying with your strategic wants and needs.
Both Sovereign Spaw and Glut hang out in the Underdark’s Myconid Colony. you’re able to speak to them and resolve the grudge upon reaching this area in Act I, and it’s pretty easy to tackle alongside other chores like killingTrue Soul Nere. However, before you go rushing to decisions, consider who you’ll want to rule as sovereign in the colony. There’s no appeasing both of them.

Siding with Spaw in Baldur’s Gate 3
If you side with Spaw inBaldur’s Gate 3, you’ll maintain peace with the colony, and more companions will approve of your choice. Otherwise, turning against it triggers a colony-wide fight. While most choices here don’t impact yourBG3future too much, Astarion comes out the biggest winner either way. you’re able to earn his approval twice when dealing with Spaw, just accept his request for help with taking out the Duergars.
Ultimately, Sovereign Spaw seems to be your good-guy answer. It was already ruling when you arrived in the Underdark, and Spaw even calls your Tav “peace-bringer” if you help the fungus folks out. Refusing to help Glut means Spaw remains in charge, which also preserves the state of the colony and, most importantly, keeps the vendors alive and in business. Siding with Glut doesn’t necessarily mean the colony’s vendors die, but it does put them at risk.

If you side with Glut inBaldur’s Gate 3, your party members largely do not approve. Astarion, once again, is the only one down to reap a little chaos either way. You can earn Astarion’s approval by agreeing to kill Spaw, then once again by actually following through on the hit. The only difference between the two paths is a matter of when you receive that approval, it’s nothing to stress over as there’s plenty of time left to woo the vampire.
At the end of the day, Sovereign Glut’s vibes are all off, and it’s got no interest in maintaining peace. The Myconid shares more about why it’s so pissed along the way, but the reasons certainly don’t warrant wiping out the entire Myconid Colony. Siding with Glut means all hell breaks loose, and the other Myconid retaliate to defend Spaw. You don’t have to kill them, but they make the fight more challenging.

Myconid Colony Quests
Glut and Spaw share a common enemy, so eliminating the Duergar to the south makes both happy. When talking to Spaw, it’ll request you kill the Duergar near the Underdark Beach. Glut asks the same but isn’t as easy to please and demands more.
Defeat the Duergar Intruders
To complete Defeat the Duergar Intruders in Baldur’s Gate 3, you have to take out a beefy band of Duergars on the southern beach of the map.
Sovereign Spaw doesn’t make your acquaintance with threats like Glut; it’s only interested in protecting the colony. Tell the monarch you’ll help and wrap this quest up before anything happens to Spaw since you’ll want the goodies it’s hiding nearby. Avenge Glut’s Circle
To complete Avenge Glut’s Circle in BG3, you have to take Glut to see the slain Duergar, then decide between supporting his coup or siding with Spaw. Here’s a quick walkthrough for Avenge Glut’s Circle inBG3.
Unlike the last quest, Glut doesn’t stop with killing the Duergar. It says there’s only room for one sovereign in the colony and demands the party kill off Spaw. You can break the news now you have no intention of helping establish the Circle of Glut or return and carry out the hit on Spaw.

To kill Spaw, select “Why not. Spaw’s time is done.”
Note the monarch’s weakness againstFire Damage; those spells hit for double. Watch out for its multi-attack, too. Spaw can hit targets with Haste or anyone with Befuddled or Poisoned ailments several times. You can spare the other Myconids, too, just don’t hit them during the battle. Once you’ve killed Spaw, they’ll back off.

To kill Glut, select “I’ll have no part of this.”
Spaw doesn’t have anything else to give you, but talking to the sovereign again gains some approval with Karlach. It’ll also upgrade your status to Kin Spirit, so that’s kind of neat. And, at least you still have all those handy vendors peacefully hanging out.
