The Sunken Curse awaits

Aside from drunkenly playing accordion underwater for laughs or trying to board enemy shipsall stealth-like,Sea of Thievesdoesn’t provide all that many reasons to take a dip. Even counting the occasional sunken ships that hopefully still hold treasure, most of your time is spent above water.

In this week’s event, The Sunken Curse, Rare hopes to incentivize underwater exploration.

In this latestBilge Rat adventure, you will need to find and destroy cursed mermaid statues. Easy enough! But here’s the thing: the statues regenerate health over time, and some of them are powerful enough to necessitate a full four-person crew. So you’ll need to cooperate with your mates, but you won’t have to seek out another crew and try to get everyone on the same page to succeed.

Rare has also scattered goodies like skulls and chests across the seafloor. These aren’t the most exciting incentives, I know, but anything to give us a break from the trading companies is fine by me.
