All new visuals to boot

ThePrince of Persiaseries has been on a bit of a lull period lately. While therumors of a next-genPrince of Persiamull around, Ubisoft is digging back into franchise history to bringPrince of Persia: Shadow and Flameto mobile. As some of you will have guessed, this is in fact a recreation of the 1993 title of a similar name.

Pune Studios, the same folks behind 2007’s XBLA titlePrince of Persia Classic, will be heading up this effort. With that said, you should have a good idea of what’s on offer here. You’ll get a faithful recreation ofPrince of Persia 2, with all new visuals to boot; no changes or serious deviations from the original. You have puzzles, platforming, potions, and a heavier emphasis on combat than inClassictoo.

As there is a great deal of platforming, controls are obviously very important, and it’s here thatShadow and Flame is a bit worrisome. The entire interface is built around a virtual d-pad and button interface, which works well enough in combat, but isn’t the smoothest when platforming.

In my time with it, the controls weren’t so bad as to lead to cheap deaths, but grabbing some ledges and landing tighter jumps took more than a fair few tries.Shadow and Flamewould be an ideal game for Bluetooth controller support, so fingers crossed for that though nothing has been announced on that front.
