If Super Mario were a Chinese kung fu crime drama…

… it would probably look just like this. Girard Tecson ofDayside Productionswanted to make aSuper Mariofan film in a style that hadn’t been done before. Tapping the talents of theTeam PTXfight choreography group, he directed a Chinese cinema version of the suspenders-clad everyman’s adventures. It follows all the Asian movie tropes, too. Bowser is the local crime lord, Mario is the reformed criminal, and Peach is the mayor’s daughter. We’ve got fast Wing Chun strikes right out of Donnie Yen’sIp Man, the goofy second banana to the protagonist’s straight man routine, and even the English-speaking character who forces his lines as though he doesn’t know English to begin with....

Is Donkey Kong king of New York in the new Mario?

Mario best not miss In a smoke-filled theatre on Broadway 84 years ago we were introduced to “Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World.” And we all know what happened after that: Jack Black’s hubris led to a damn dirty ape scalingourtowers withourwomen. Sure we airholed the dumb-assed gorilla with Snoopy-ass biplanes, butwhat if….? It’s a question that has led to some our most challenging fiction sinceRed Dawnasked, “What if we could cast ourselves as the beseiged underdogs despite a generation of global hegemony?...

It’s the perfect time for another dark Zelda game

Tears of the Kingdomcan’t come soon enough One of the many things I love about theZeldaseries is that each game has its own unique vibe — from the cartoony wholesomeness ofWind Wakerto the downright spooky atmosphere ofMajora’s Mask. Of course, I’m excited to see how the upcomingBreath of the Wildsequel, which we now know is calledTears of the Kingdom, will innovate on the gameplay mechanics from its predecessor, but even moreso, I’m pumped to seehow the story of the world has changedsince we last checked in with the Hylian hero....

Minecraft Dungeons is getting cross-play, as well as DLC

Free and paid DLC So farMinecraft Dungeonsis off to a great start. At $20 with local and online multiplayer it’s a pretty easy sell, especially with the emphasis on random dungeons and loadouts. I’ve had a ton of fun with it so far at multiple player counts, but there’s more coming for those of you who need it.As announced on the official blog, two big DLCs are coming. The first is “Jungle Awakens,” a pack due in July that will add three new missions to the game, as well as a host of items (weapons, armor, artifacts)....

Now I know why Devolver picked up A Fistful of Gun

A fistful of gold It takes a certain kind of appeal for Devolver Digital to add a title to its stable of games. While the indie-friendly publisher doesn’t necessarily have an underlying style that unite all of its games, there is a common theme. They’re all uniquely awesome in some way.A Fistful of Gunis the newcomer to Devolver, but it falls right in line as one might expect. A Fistful of Gunis a top-down western arcade shooter that’s all about execution, but maybe moreso about how you’ll arrive at that execution....
