Rise of the Triad: Dark Wargets overlooked when it came to influential early PC FPS titles; it, along withDuke Nukem 3D, helped bridge the gap betweenDoomandQuake. Here’s what Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) looks like on location

One of the best events I’ve attended I had the chance to attend theAwesome Games Done Quickevent at the Hilton Washington Dulles Airport Hotel (right nearSuper Smash Con), and in addition toall of the great runsso far, it’s been one of my favorite industry events in recent history. What I love most about it is that while it maintains a high energy level with plenty of enthusiastic runners and watchers, it doesn’t feel overcrowded, and is much more tight-knit than you’d expect....

Hitman movie reboot ‘Agent 47’ to star Paul Walker

Yes, that Paul Walker It’s been an unusually long time since I’ve been able to use the word “reboot” here, but with the recentHitman Absolutionstill fresh on our minds, it’s only natural that the term would come up in relation to the popular stealth series. Fox International Productions will be rebooting 2007’sHitmanfilm with Paul Walker as Agent 47, reportsDeadline. I’m just going to let that sink in for a moment. As much as I likeThe Fast and the Furiousfor reasons beyond logical explanation, I can’t picture him with a fully shaved head....

How nice: GOG.com adds 31 FLAC soundtracks

Free with game purchases One of my favorite features of GOG.com is its inclusion of bonuses at no additional charge, particularly when it comes to the “good old games,” which these days isn’t the sole focus of the distributor. Extras can range from rare artwork to full manuals to soundtracks and in my experience, these materials often help fuel feelings of nostalgia. Going a step further this week, GOG.com has added 31 FLAC-encoded soundtracks to games likeAnother World,Darklands,Earthworm Jim,Heroes of Might and Magic,MDK 2,Neverwinter Nights 2,Shadow Warrior, andThe Witcher....

Impressions: Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake enhances where it really matters: the wandering

I really wishDragon Quest III HD-2D Remakewas released in a different month (absolutely any other would do). If I hadn’t already pushed through multiple 20-50 hour games in the past few weeks, I probably would have been prepared for it, but I’m out of push. There’s no way I could burn the midnight oil to get a review ready in any reasonable timeframe. I settled on playing as much as I could and giving my impressions instead....

iPhone 4: Largest ‘console’ launch ever?

Yes, I’m with you. It’s not a ‘console’ or anything even close to that. It’s a phone in my mind. A phone that I use for music and Twitter. A portable sometimes gaming machine at best. The games? Sure, there’s some that I really like. But I’m usually out to play games on a game system, with buttons and such. Still, it’s hard to discount the power of the new Jesus Phone....

It looks like Sony is making a slimmer PS4

Alleged photos of unannounced system appear [Update:A Wall Street Journal reportbacks this up, noting a possible release of the Slim in September.] Earlier today, photographs of an alleged redesigned PlayStation 4 systemsurfaced online, but they just depicted the box, not the unit itself. There was even alisting on Gumtreefor the product, described by the seller as the “latest slim line model” and “not in stores yet.” I wasn’t convinced. Now we’ve got more pictures, courtesy of NeoGAF user Venom Fox, who prompted the seller to unbox the dang thing and give us something more to go on....

Kinect Party trailer makes your high fives sparkle

Twist that body There’s a lot of interesting stuff going on in this newKinect Partytrailer, but what I’m most interested in is having sparks come off my high fives with other people. How great is that? I imagine that happening anyway, soKinect Partyis a way to make that a virtual reality. I’m also digging the weird twirly body thing and being able to make it rain cash out of thin air....

Nintendo Download: Metro 2033 and Last Light Redux

Also, Sega Ages Sonic 2 Wow, it’s a hot week for the Nintendo eShop! As I’ve been saying like a broken record for weeks now we’ve been getting over the post-holiday slump, but now we’re back in full gear. There’s 46 games dropping on the eShop this week, a far cry from Nintendo’s previous 30+ mark that they wanted to hit a few years back. Although many of them are older games that publishers are playing catch up with, the Switch has become a powerhouse in its own right in terms of its library....
