Tabletop Kickstarters soared over video games last year

The average campaign raised $65,418 compared to video games’ $48,184 Polygon managed to get some hard data from Kickstarter in the games sector, and it’s pretty illuminating. After being burned in the past so many times by video game Kickstarters, fans seemingly started to get burnt out on the idea of over-zealously crowdfunding. Although the amount of average funding grew a bit from $45,360 in 2016 to $48,184 in 2017 (marginal gains), the average in 2015, arguably right before the fail-bubble burst, was $110,962....

The best stuff on Destructoid this week [5/31]

Hug my son? In this economy? Who wants to help me move this weekend? I found (after 8 months) a place that is sickeningly expensive, because San Francisco is ruined, but notsoexpensive that I want to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge instead of continuing to look for a new place to live. This is as close to a “win” as I get. Let me have it. Here’slast week’s post....

The Crush House has drama, but struggles to keep its focus

It is a Thursday morning, and I’m prepping myself for the TV production equivalent of a triathlon. I will be running, leaping, squatting, and all other manner of athletically maneuvering around the small reality TV set ofThe Crush House, following four would-be stars as they fight and fall in love. Maybe a bit of both. My goal, as intrepid producer Jae, is to film it all. But really, I’m not looking for the specific moments you might normally seek out; I’m looking for the right framing, the proper angles, and the perfect shots to appease my audience....

The PlayStation Plus games for July are an unlikely duo

Horizon Chase Turbo and… PES 2019? I’m not sure this is what we had in mind when Sony decided to consolidate its PlayStation Plus lineup down to a selection of just two PS4 titles per month. Between the two, you’re probably more curious aboutHorizon Chase Turbo. What even is it? “Of all of the retro revival games that have come out over the past few years, it is near the top of my personal list of favorites,” Joel said in his review last year....

Who would have thought? VVVVVVblew everyone away some time ago with its perfect pacing, amazing level design, and forgiving checkpoint system.
