STALKER 2 already has a bunch of mods available (and I recommend many of them)

I’m not sayingSTALKER 2: Heart of Chornobylis perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I genuinely think it’s going to develop into something beautiful. Granted, the matter of A-Life being borkedis still on the table, but the modding scene is already kicking off! Perhaps this should’ve been obvious from the get-go, given thatwe had performance optimizing mods mere hours afterSTALKER 2came out, but I’m still taken aback by how productive the community’s been in such short order....

Talking to Women about Videogames: Why am I doing this?

[Talking to Women about Videogamesis a series where Jonathan Holmes talks to different people who are women about the biggest videogame news of the week for some reason. Get the album featuringcelebrities from the world of game music here.] From the very start, I thought that making a show calledTalking to Women about Videogames was probably a bad idea, but I couldn’t help but give it a try. Ten episodes later, I am extremely grateful for both the women who were willing to be on the show and for the people who were willing to watch it on a fairly regular basis....

The 3DS Vs. the DS in their first 45 weeks

[IllustrationbyDavid Cardenas] There was a lot of hoopla in 2011 about the 3DS being a huge success, a total failure, doomed byNubageddon, rescued by Mario, and so forth. It was all pretty dramatic. When you sit back an look at the numbers though, it all seems pretty calm and straight forward. According to these graphs byNintendo-Master.com, it looks like the 3DS generally had a weaker start than the DS, a similar lull in the middle, and a much better end to its first 45 weeks of sales, capping things off by breaking records for themost sales of a videogame console in one month in Japan....

The Baby Yoda Xbox controller looks cool but probably costs more than you want to pay

A lot of green for the little green guy I suppose, if we’re being pedantic and letting semantics get in the way, this isn’t explicitly a Baby Yoda controller. It’s aMandaloriancontroller. But, something tells me people will just call it “The Baby Yoda controller” so let’s get formalities out of the way. Controller Gear, who makes officially licensed accessories, has a new Xbox controller forThe Mandalorian. It’s a gunmetal gray with the Mandalorian clan insignia on it....

The true cost of freedom in Helldivers 2: Why its death count matters more than you might think

Death is a core game mechanic inHelldivers 2. No matter how you spin it, the game is built to see you die while slamming ‘diver after ‘diver at a wall of enemies in an effort to free various planets from their influence and protect Super Earth. Following the success of the most recent Major Order, the death count has spiraled out of control, but it’s an important statistic that means more than you might think at first glance....

These are the best new video game characters from 2019

Duck, duck, Untitled Goose Let’s get this out of the way: no other new character from 2019 is as memorable and charming as that horrible goose fromUntitled Goose Game. Honestly, there is no better representation of the collective mood than that goose. It’s become a symbol of irreverence and tomfoolery, finding its way into everything fromMuppets’ skitsto protest signs. We all love the goose but I think its entrance into the zeitgeist has overshadowed many of the other new, original characters who made their debut in 2019....

Today’s Fall Guys update trimmed the timer in Royal Fumble and Team Tail Tag

Among other much-needed changes Win or lose, the tail-grabbing games inFall Guys: Ultimate Knockoutdrag on for way too long. It’s gotten to the point where I mindlessly goof around in Team Tail Tag and outright sit still– hands off the controller–in Royal Fumble until the last 40 seconds or so that actually matter. The rest is fluff! It seems I’m far from the only one who thinks the timers could use a trim....
