A couple years back, at GDC 2008, Iwitnessed a very early buildof an indie game calledFez.

After seeing (and finally playing!) the game, I subsequently lost my mind in excitement.

Fezis aCave Story-esque side-scrolling 2D platformer with a major twist. At any point, players can change the game’s perspective by rotating the camera 90 degrees, resulting in the level literally changing around main character Gomez. It’s likeSuper Paper Mario, but SO MUCH COOLER!

As you can tell by watching this new gameplay video — posted on developerPolytron’s website—Fezlooks incredible, and appears to play even better. I can only imagine the creative, ingenious puzzles that will utilize the games fresh and unique gameplay mechanic. Also, can we talk about the retro-inspired sound effects and music? Because they are RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME!

It has been a long time coming, butFezlooks like it will be worth the wait. The game is set to hit Xbox Live Arcade in early 2011. I really can’t take it any longer. I have to be playing this game right now.

What do you think? Do you agree? IsFezshaping up to be as original and clever as this video is making it out to be? Commence the all-caps “OMG DO WANT!”s in the comments. I’ll start.
