Baldur’s Gate 3is a game of infinite choice where the outcome of nearly anything, from conversations to combat, is mainly within the player’s control. It is crucial to remember this variety of options in the latter half of Act II where the player is at a disadvantage against the various swarms of enemies and encroaching darkness. Much like dealing withMalus Thorm in the House of Healing, players have a few ways to kill Gerringothe Thorm.

Dealing with the Thorms is no easy feat but all three can be vanquished through dialogue due to their own vices. Gerringothe’s sole desire is the accumulation of wealth as she is the toll collector. There are a few courses one can pursue during the conversation with Gerringothe that will result in her death but be warned that each is guarded by a high skill check. As such, begin the conversation with your most charismatic character and be prepared to buff their persuasion, intimidation, and deception rolls.
Before you may even get to the point of convincing her not to fight, you’ll need to pony up some cash. Gerringothe will demand you pay, sochoose to hand her some gold. She’ll consume it and ask for more. From there, choose the option “I don’t hand out so much gold for so little in return.” This will open up a few more choices depending on things like class.

No matter which route you pick, so long as you convince Gerringothe to hand over all of her gold, both she and her floating skull minions will die and end the encounter before it even begins.

For those who prefer to dispatch their foes the old-fashioned way, know that Gerringothe Thorm isn’t going down without a fight. Themost important key to surviving this fight is to dump all of your gold. The reason for this will quickly become abundantly clear.
At the beginning of combat, Gerringothe will use theCombustible Coinsattack. This turns all of the gold into little bombs that go off after one turn. Should a character clear the dexterity save, they’ll still take half damage. That means if you have one character acting as the bank, odds are they’ll be killed right off the bat.

With that out of the way, it’s on to the actual fight. Gerringothe has just north of 600 HP. However, this health is actually just armor provided by the floating skulls.Targeting and destroying each skull will take 100 HP from Gerringothe. With her armor out of the way, Gerringothe is easy to finish off. Be mindful that even without her armor and exploding gold trick, she still packs a punch.
No matter which way you choose to take out Gerringothe remember to loot everything in the tollhouse as it is littered with gold and other valuable items. After all, the real game is accumulating a veritable dragon’s hoard of wealth and exploiting Faerûn’s economy.
