Xenoblade Chronicles Xhas a pretty extensive character customization segment before you dive into the story of Mira, but that doesn’t mean that your initial choices are always the best. Thankfully, there’s a way to alter your appearance later on, but it does take some effort.

If you’ve begun to tire of your initial choices when creating your character inXenoblade Chronicles X, don’t despair; they can be changed. Eventually. Sadly, you’ll need to play through a sizable chunk of the story before you can reap the rewards, but rest assured, you’ll get there soon enough.

The machine inside Yardley’s Hideout that lets you change your appearance in Xenoblade Chronicles X

To change your appearance inXenoblade Chronicles X, you’ll need to unlock Yardley’s Hideaway by completing two Normal Missions:

This Normal Mission will become available for you to complete once you’ve cleared Chapter 3: Builders of a Legacy. When you’ve done that, head to the Outfitters Test Hangar in the Industrial District of New Los Angeles and talk to Yardley.

After voicing his concerns about the price of Skell parts, Yardley will send you off to find the following materials:

With the items in hand, head back to Yardley at the Outfitters Test Hangar and hand them to him to complete this mission and get one step closer to changing your appearance.

How to complete House of Cards in Xenoblade Chronicles X

After completing Chapter 5: Ma-non Maneuvers, head to the Mission Control Terminal opposite the entrance to the BLADE Barracks and locate the House of Cards mission to accept it.

Yardley has lost his keycard and is offering the staggering reward of 100,000 Credits to whoever can locate and return it. It’s a hefty sum, but let’s face it, we’re only in this for the customization potential. Anyway, after accepting the mission, it’s time to track down the keycard.

Turn around at the Mission Control Terminal and face the entrance to the BLADE Barracks, then turn right and run that way. Take the first right and keep going until you see an elevator with C-01 written on it. You can take this elevator down or jump off the edge behind it onto the road below (not taking fall damage has its perks).

Face north and make your way down the road for a while until you spot an NPC on your right called Wang. Go towards and past Wang into the Hangar, then turn right until you locate a white crate in the back. The keycard can be found behind this white crate, appearing as a regular collectible but glowing orange rather than blue.

You can either take the elevator or a leap of faith during House of Cards in Xenoblade Chronicles X

To return the keycard to Yardley, make your way to the Commercial District via fast traveling to Barista Court. Yardley will be waiting in a nearby alleyway during the afternoon, so if you’re outside of that time, change it through the menu and then talk to Yardley to return the keycard.

Rather than the House of Cards Mission completing when you hand the keycard back to Yardley, it will continue with him telling you to meet him on the lowest level of New LA. To get to where you need to be, head back to the Restricted Hangar and hop over the railings into the water below.

In the southeast area of this water, there is a white crate. Swim towards it, hop over it to get yourself into the necessary position, then enter the settings and change the time to late night. After doing this, a man will appear for you to talk to.

How to change your appearance in Xenoblade Chronicles X

After talking to the mysterious man who appeared in the middle of the night, you’ll gain access to the machine next to him. This is where you can come at any point moving forward if you want to tweak your appearance or outright become someone entirely different. You’ll also be able to fast-travel to this location from this point onward, which is handy, especially if you’re particularly indecisive.

When using Yardley’s machine, you can change every decision you made when you started out except for your name, which means you can change pretty much everything visual about yourself. There is, however, a catch — you can only do this at night. To change your appearance, use the machine at any time between midnight and 5 a.m., using the Change Time feature to get to that point if necessary.
