‘Lantern Gameplay’
If you haven’t seen enoughResident Evil 7yet, there’s plenty of footage on offer here with Capcom’s gamescom trailer. Set to the tune of found footage, we find a young woman hiding from a killer in an abandoned plantation, with plenty of tension throughout. I like what I’ve seen so far, but I have reservations.
My only concern is that they might go full jump scares/YouTube bait with it — the first-person viewpoint is a major clue towards this tonal shift. If they stick to atmospheric horror, I’m fine with that, but there’s potential to go overboard for “Twitch moments” (like the very end of the trailer) that will ultimately cheapen the game.
