Only sold more than spin-off Rogue

In case you somehow didn’t notice,Assassin’s Creed Syndicatelaunched last week. Setting the series predominantly in the UK for the first time (we had a little bit in the opening toAC3), plus being set in the much-loved Victorian era, you’d assume the game would’ve done fantastically in Britain, right?

According toPlayStation Universe,Syndicate, despite reaching the top position in the all-format charts, has also had the worst-performing launch week in the entire history of the series.

In fact, the only majorAssassin’s Creedit has beaten is the last-gen exclusiveAssassin’s Creed: Rogue, which is arguably more of a spinoff than a main entry in the series and was overshadowed by the simultaneous release ofUnity. It didn’t even manage to beat the very firstAssassin’s Creed, which was an unproven and new IP when it was released. Yikes.

It’s worth keeping a few things in mind before assuming this is the death of theCreedseries though. First,Syndicatehasn’t sold poorly, it’s just not sold as well as would be expected from a majorAssassin’s Creedgame. Second, these charts don’t include digital sales, nor do they include the PC version, which has been delayed until November.
